Every child needs a home because the home is the best place
to be. Some of our children are deprived from a nurturing support of a home for
many different reasons. Absence of parents or other relatives, parental
inability to look after the child, desertion of children, loss of parents due
to accidents and natural disasters and war are some of the common reasons
visible in Sri Lanka. Whatever the reasons are the results are equally
unwholesome on the development of the child.
The home plays a vital role in a child’s life. Home provides
the basic trainings of life; home provides the first lessons of love, caring,
sharing, belongingness and the social responsibility. Home is the final place
to go, home is the place where your loved ones are, and home is the stage for
most of your childhood memories. Till the end of your life you can always go
home; no matter physically or a quick mind tour, ‘the home should be there’
waiting for you.
House of Light is a family based rehabilitation center for
boys who are homeless and provides them the care and warmth of a home
since the year 2003. The children here developed within the set up of a family
and each family member is considered unique and important.
